Grumpy

  • High grade gold vein system
  • Located along the proposed Grays Bay Road

The Grumpy Property is located 585 km NE of Yellowknife and 190 km ESE of Kugluktuk (Coppermine). It lies astride the proposed Grays Bay to Contwoyto Lake Road right of way, 23 km south of the proposed terminus on Coronation Gulf.

The property is at the north end of the Archean High Lake Greenstone Belt. The claim area is underlain by rhyolites and dacites, overlain by a thin dolomite horizon and capped on the east by greywacke turbidites, locally intruded by diorite. The area was explored by Echo Bay Mines Ltd. in the mid 1980’s and by BHP-Utah Mines in the early 1990’s. The property covers the Grumpy Showing (NUMIN showing 076MNE0061) and the Cygnet Showing (NUMIN showing 076MNE0062).

The Grumpy Showing is an anastomosing laminated quartz vein system; it is exposed for 105 m along strike and ranges from 1.1 to 2.3 thick. The vein system carries auriferous sulphides in centimetre-scale pods and along fractures. Seven trenches along the exposure returned best results of 20 g/t Au over 1.0 m, 19.3 g/t Au over 1.2 m, and 10.8 g/t Au over 1.9 m from vein material. Samples including adjacent mineralized wall rock ran to 12.7 g/t Au across 1.6 m and 8.3 g/t Au across 2.5 m.

The Cygnet Showing is approximately 2.2 km SW of the Grumpy Showing and consists of auriferous quartz veins at the contact between felsic volcanic rocks and dolomite. BHP-Utah mapped a series of thin veins up to 25 m long and 0.3 m wide and reported grab sample analyses of this material ranging up to 32.9 g/t Au and chip sample results ranging up to 0.3 m @ 16.9 g/t Au.
